First Semester Reflection

Image result for classroom images

My reflection on this semester is good. That is because all my teachers have made an impact on my life, and really helped me a lot with the school work. I have learned a ton of new information on the Presidential election and about fiances for the big world. Some things I did not like were all of the projects on the presidential election because it was just so much for all of my classes combined with that one topic, it was a fun topic at times but I personally do not think it was that interesting at times. I think I grew in my school work in some areas like math. Some insights that I found about myself are I can do it if I really but my effort in to it and try my best. It is a lot easier to get by in life if you try your best. I feel as if I have grown in some areas more than other and that is okay because that is still a good jump. This year so far has been exciting and stressful, and I hope next semester will calm down a little bit.

Freakonomics!

I have learned a lot from the freakonomics like learning about our world. Also how we should start saving because we probably would not be able to get enough money if a life crisis were to happen. Some other things that really stood out were that most money is spent on lottery tickets, and some banks are making their systems like a lottery when you put money in you are able to win a prize. This is amazing because it has helped a lot for the banks that have changed to doing this.

Chapter 3: A Lonely Christmas.

I am Yuki. We did not hear from my father yet and it has been 5 days and we are all starting to get worried, on the 6 day we got a letter from father saying where he was and that they should all come visit him soon. When we got to the detention center where my father was held it looked scary and all of the government buildings looked gross. When we met up with father it was nice being able to see him, he was in the same clothes he left in. When we were about to leave father told us that he was getting transferred to an Army Internment Camp in Montana, that crushed us all we will not be able to visit or see him, we do not know when he will be back. When we got home we started to put together a care package for father and the rest of our friends. A few weeks later we got the news that me and my family are getting evacuated from the state, I do not understand why we have to go because we did nothing wrong and neither did father.

Chapter 7: A New Friend.

I am Yuki. In the morning of the next day I woke up to loud banning I thought it was ken so I asked him to stop. It was actually in the stall next to us, I felt so embarrassed because a young girl’s voice answered with a “sorry” I then told them It was OK. They had said that it was already 9 o’clock, when I took a look around the stall mamma and Ken were both gone, I had missed breakfast but mamma had gotten me some toast. I kept hearing the girl’s voice next door so I got a little curious I heard an old man and an old woman’s voice. As I walked out to go see what they looked like the little girl and the rest of them looked like. I had met the girl she lived with her grandparents and had said that her parents died. Her name was Emilio but I called her Emi. Her grandparents name was Kurihara but they told me to call them grandparents.  Me and Emi then went exploring around the camp.

Chapter 9: A New Rumor.

I am Yuki. They started to do head counts now, I do not know why because I don’t think anyone would try to escape. School was starting and I was pretty excited about it because I was starting to get bored. One day I had got home from school and there was college catalogs on the table, that  really made me upset because it felt like Ken was deserting me and mama. I then heard a rumor that we were getting moved to another camp I did  not know if I Should believe it or not. Ken then decided that he was not going to college because he did not want to leave me and mama behind, I knew it would hurt him but, deep down inside I was happy that he wasn’t going to leave us.

Chapter 10: Goodbye, Tanforan.

I am Yuki. The rumors were true! We are getting moved to Utah! It is so awful me and Emi were so upset. I was writing to Mimi and I had gotten a letter from Mrs. Jamison, saying that Mimi could not bear to break the news to me that pepper had died. That broke my heart I had nowhere to go to grieve I was so upset. We were getting departed to Utah today so we had to start packing everything up, at the beginning I was a little sad that we had to leave our little horse stall but, when we packed everything up I was not so sad seeing how dull it really was. We then were boarding leaving behind the stables and all of the trees. It was upsetting to pass by all of the shops with flowers and neon signs and lights, but they began to slowly fade away and the car conductor had came in and told us to shut the screens on the windows until daylight. I could see that Ken was still unhappy and I knew that it was about college.

Chapter 13: A Last Visit.

I am Yuki. I just got the news that Emi is still sick and I can not visit her for a while, But she said that she does not have to go a way to get treated for TB. Something was up with Ken because he has been really distant and away at his new job at the hospital. I really miss the old and nice Ken from Berkeley. I started to go to Emis grandpa because he gave me comfort, we would walk around looking for arrowheads and trilobites. The people at the camp seemed to be frustrated that they had to live behind barbed wire. Mrs. Kurihara had made this weird potion for Emi to get better. Mr. Kurihara seemed to be off and that might have been the last time I was going to be able to talk to him.

Research On Discrimination

Race or Color discrimination is a really big problem in our world today. We all as humans discriminate against certain people that have color or their race. There is a fine line between race and color. When it comes to your race a lot of people will not want you to work for them because you are not like them, you are different because of where you came from or how you do things in your life. It can by a wide span of a whole bunch of things bundling together because of your race.

Like when it comes to getting health care for your family to getting pulled over by the police, they will give them a harder time than if they were white or non Hispanic. Even if they were born in the U.S. they still said that they were discriminated in some way or another. If they were not born in the U.S. were still more likely to have been discriminated against. The ones that are foreign born said that they have been discriminated against at their place of work more than the ones that were born in the U.S.

In the article “Immigrant Status Tied to Discrimination Among Hispanics” it talks about the percentages of Hispanics born in the U.S. and the ones that were not born in the U.S. “Foreign-born Hispanics (15%) are five times more likely than U.S.-born Hispanics (3%) to say they experienced discrimination because they are Hispanic while getting healthcare for themselves or for a family member.”  (McCarthy) “Immigrant Status Tied to Discrimination Among Hispanics”.With this being said that is crazy that people who are not born or were born in this country but are Hispanic get troubled for asking for health care to protect their family member.

With that on your mind does it not occur that some of the people you work with are going through that same thing and you would have no idea. There are also a lot or crimes and or hate crimes against Latinos are Mexican Americans. “FBI statistics show a dramatic increase in anti-Hispanic hate crimes. And sadly, hate groups are increasing due to anti-illegal immigration concerns.” (Gibson) “Discrimination Against Hispanics, Latinos, and Mexican American.” When we hear this, it is horrible to think about this is our own people getting treated like dirt because of where we come from we should stand against this.

Discussion Post

A few things that motivated me to get good grades and do well in school etc. Is my job, and my car. This is because if I do good I get too keep my job and I want to keep my job because when I get money I can get more of the things I want. One incentive I get for doing good in school and keeping up my grades is my car, if I keep up my grades I get too keep my car. My parents play a big role in getting good grades too because if I get good grades I get to go to fun places. One other thing that is great about getting good grades is it just feels good, it is great to know that  you have good grades and do not have to worry too much about it.
